Cette Compétition médiatique, organisée par L’Union Africaine, l’Initiative Spotlight, le FNUAP et GMC (Global Media Campaign), fait suite à l’atelier de formation sur le renforcement des capacités qui s’est tenu à Addis Abeba (Ethiopie) en août 2023.

Dominic Kamau Maichuhie – Kenya

Kamau Maichuhie is a journalist and a senior reporter at Daily Nation Newspaper, the largest newspaper in Kenya.
At the Gender Desk, the Daily Nation reports on all gender-related matters including harmful practices like female genital mutilation (FGM), child marriage, wife inheritance, rape, and defilement among others.
From 2013 to 2019, while working for Standard Newspaper, he covered extensively on matters touching on harmful practices like rape, defilement and gender-based violence (GBV), dis-inheritance among women, among others.
Through his work, he has been a strong proponent of gender equality and women empowerment. This is a thing that he has a soft spot for.
Seeing action being taken or policy changes being effected by the government and other relevant stakeholders, as a result of some of the stories they do, have been very fulfilling.
His goal is to be a notable change-maker in matters of gender equality in his country, Kenya, and beyond.

Kamau Maichuhie est un journaliste et un reporter senior au Daily Nation Newspaper, le journal le plus lu au Kenya.
Au niveau de la cellule genre, le Daily Nation fait des reportages sur toutes les questions liées au genre, y compris les pratiques néfastes telles que les mutilations génitales féminines (MGF), le mariage des enfants, l’héritage des épouses, le viol, la défloration, entre autres.
De 2013 à 2019, alors qu’il travaillait pour le Standard Newspaper, il a couvert de manière intensive des sujets touchant à des pratiques néfastes comme le viol, la défloration et la violence basée sur le genre (GBV), le dé-héritage chez les femmes, entre autres.
A travers son travail, il défend avec ferveur l’égalité des sexes et l’émancipation des femmes. C’est une chose qui lui tient à cœur.
Voir le gouvernement et d’autres parties prenantes prendre des mesures ou modifier leur politique, à la suite de certains de ses reportages, est très gratifiant.
Son objectif est de devenir un acteur du changement dans le domaine de l’égalité entre les hommes et les femmes dans son pays, le Kenya, et au-delà.

Seydou Diatta – Senegal

Seydou Diatta, journalist and reporter at the Emedia Invest group (IRADIO, ITV, and Media) is adept at positive masculinity.
It has now been 17 years since he has been involved in the fight against GBV and more specifically any harmful cultural practice against girls and women in particular.
In a locality such as Kolda, in southern Senegal where he resides, and where the development and fulfillment of women remain long weighed down by these cultural practices, his commitment remains motivated by the fact that he realized in a very early stage that criticizing alone is not enough to restore the well-being of these thousands of victims. The root of evil must be cut, but through an approach that does not harm anyone. In other words by raising awareness in the community.
He remains convinced that we can make a difference and improve the lives of women around the world.

We congratulate Seydou for his award and encourage him to continue to fight for the well-being of girls and women.

Seydou Diatta, journaliste et reporter au sein du groupe Emedia Invest (IRADIO, ITV et emedidia.sn) est un adepte de la masculinité positive par passion.  Cela fait maintenant 17 ans, depuis qu’il est engagé dans la lutte contre les VBG et plus précisément contre toute pratique culturelle néfaste à l’égard des filles et des femmes en particulier.
Dans une localité comme Kolda, au sud du Sénégal où il réside, et où le développement et l’épanouissement des femmes est resté longtemps plombés par ces pratiques culturelles, son engagement reste motivé par le fait qu’il s’est rendu compte très tôt qu’il ne suffit pas de critiquer pour rétablir le bien-être de ces milliers de victimes. Il faut couper la racine du mal, mais par une approche qui ne fait de mal à personne. En d’autres termes, en sensibilisant la communauté.
Il reste convaincu que nous pouvons faire la différence et améliorer la vie des femmes dans le monde.
Nous félicitons Seydou pour son prix et l’encourageons à continuer à lutter pour le bien-être des filles et des femmes.
