Listeners Changing Minds on FGM through Radio Sensitisation

By Team Kenema,

Radio show:

The Sensitization went on so successfully that listeners contributed by sending text messages and making phone calls. The good part of the campaign against FGM people is to start seeing reasons why it is bad for girls in this part of the country.

Through radiosensitization, most listeners we spoke to people decided not to initiate their girl child. #TeamKenema #SierraLeone #EndFGM   Click To Tweet

Some of the challenges faced during the FGM campaign are:

  1. We are not protected from the Government because they have not yet given their support to the fight against FGM and we as activists are at risk.
  2. The soweis are threatening us, they even chase journalists in their various places.
  3. Politicians are not in favor of any activists who campaign against FGM.
  4. No private bike (Honda), and this last campaign team leader kenema got an accident with the okada that took him to radio due to the rider he doesn’t know how to ride properly, etc.
