Radio Show Highlights The issues that come from FGM in Jijiga, Ethiopia

I am Ubah Jamal Mohamed, Somali Women Journalist, based in Jijiga. From Somali regional state FM Jijiga. The Air of FM Jigjiga reaches the zones that are Fafan, Siti, Jarar, Nogob, and some districts in the Korahay zone.

As all of us are aware of the women and children suffers many problems during their life. Therefore I have participated in a brief orientation message about the risks and issues of female genital mutilation by releasing our FM to reach the Somali society in Ethiopia.

I took part in a summertime cutting media campaign by broadcasting awareness-raising about the problems of female genital mutilation.
The program of this awareness-raising will continue to broadcast for the next two consecutive weeks.

Ruth Harley is working with GMC as a Website News Editor, compiling stories written by End FGM campaigners working with the Global Media Campaign to End FGM across Africa. Alongside this work, she is running The Women’s Vinyl Project which empowers women and girls through singing and music and is helping to end FGM.
