FGM Survivor shares her Heartbreaking Insecurities on Radio and TV, Nigeria

Prof, Andrew Zamani former Psychology President Of Nigeria, a clinical psychiatrist, was on air 2nd April 2021, With OJ Mathew on Midmorning Show.

The Prof spoke on the psychological effect of Female Genital Mutilation or circumcision, the trauma they go through, which lead to depression, they become emotional numbness, they lose their pride as Women or Girl child, they feel rejected because they don’t feel among the society sexually and they lack confidence… However, he said sometimes it leads to the victim’s husband marrying another woman due to what his circumcised partner faces.

Mrs. Habiba Haruna was on air 25th of March at Kapital Fm 92.9 Radio Nigeria with Ben Dodo

Mrs. Habiba Haruna is a victim of female genital mutilation, she spoke about the pain she went through during childbirth, she added that she spent five days in the labor room, how sometimes she doesn’t want her husband to even come close to her.

She said the challenges they go through, sometimes it leads to Viseco Vaginal Fistula in terms of early marriage for the under age Girl, urinary problem, sometimes they smell, and makes them feel depressed and unconfident. Most victims shy away to talk about it because they don’t want to be stigmatized by their fellow Women.

Mrs. Habiba Haruna on Farin-wata Tv Startime decoder which happens to a Hausa TV Station, again talking about FGM, in the Hausa Language.

She said most of the instruments used during the cutting of the genitalia, or labia are not sterilized and lead to sexual infections.Most People think if they do not circumcise their Daughters it may lead them to promiscuous acts, and that FGM it’s a passage to Womanhood. Sometimes those victims bleed to death if the blood doesn’t stop. In Summary, she shared all her experiences, as a victim and what she went through during Child Birth.
