2022 Somalia – #FrontlineEndingFGM  

Somalia faces a growing concern about FGM cases and child marriage as the country is facing the worst drought experienced in years. This leads to concerns that parents will turn to their girls as their only source of income: FGM & Child marriage.

This year:

  • 22 campaigns by #FrontineEndingFGM 
  • Reaching 7,000,000 on radio, TV, and social media.

2022 Highlights:

This year campaigners have been working hard with the media on the ground to spread the message that FGM is not a religious obligation and that FGM threatens the health of mother and baby during childbirth, campaigners have been interviewing ex cutters and engaging the youth to help them help themselves like the Youth awareness in Jowhar State and School girls appeal in Putland, Somalia and working to end FGM in Internally Displaced Peoples camp in Mogadishu.

Ruth Harley

Ruth Harley is working with GMC as a Website News Editor, compiling stories written by End FGM campaigners working with the Global Media Campaign to End FGM across Africa. Alongside this work, she is running The Women’s Vinyl Project which empowers women and girls through singing and music and is helping to end FGM.
