21 Year Old Bleeds to Death from FGM, Bondo Bush, Sierra Leone

By Ruth Harley,

Christmas cutting season is here and this deadly practice is again being conducted in remote communities.

Yesterday, 21st December 2021 21-year-old Maseray Sei was found dead in the Bondo Bush in Nyandeni Village, Bonthe District after undergoing Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) it is thought that the 21-year-old girl bled to death.

From today’s press release from the Forum Against Harmful Practises (FAHP) it was stated that :

We also want to remind all Sierra Leoneans that the ban on initiations into secret societies during the Covid 19 emergency outbreak has not been lifted. Any initiation program, therefore, is against government regulations, and those funding and promoting initiations can also be held liable.

Christmas cutting in Kenya:

Last week in Motemorabu village, Kuria West, Kenya we also saw FGM ceremonies being conducted in broad daylight Where girls walked from their initiations with the most unimaginable pain (see the photo above).

FGM is a violation of human rights and must END.

This case is being dealt with by the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) and a post mortem has been ordered. We hope young Maseray gets justice.

Rest in peace Maseray Sei.
